Living for Monday Morning: The Business of Groove Life
In honor of Labor Day weekend, we want to say “thank you” to all of the hardworking men and women out there.
Thank you for all you do!
While you take a breather from your work week, we want to let you in on a little secret.
You probably know Groove Life® for our outdoor adventure-inspired products, featuring smooth and flexible silicone rings, trendy watch bands, and our signature Groove Belt®.
But there’s something you may not know about Groove.
What Sets Us Apart
Word is that Groove Life employs the most fun and hard-working individuals out there and has a company culture that can’t be matched.
But don’t just take our word for it.
Groove is one of the fastest growing companies in America according to Inc. Magazine and has grown to over 170 employees in just a few years, while implementing creative ways to motivate and reward our employees along the way.
So why is company culture so important? Well, to Kevin Beasley, it’s vital in order to succeed.
While his title at Groove Life is Director of Culture & Outreach, Kevin’s primary role is to listen to people.
Wait, what?
That’s right. After Groove hit around 80 employees, we discovered a need to have someone take care of our employees on a full-time basis.
According to Kevin, “the only way you can determine a company’s culture is to listen to its employees.”
So on a weekly basis, you’ll find Kevin “walking the floor” of Groove, giving employees a chance to be seen and heard, all in an effort to capture the health of Groove’s employees, identify any existing or potential issues, and improve our culture over time.
Breaking the Mold
Unlike other companies who create a culture and expect their employees to fit the mold, we start with our employees. We listen rather than dictate, and consider our employees to be more than just cogs in the system.
Groove Life values people over products.
But this isn’t just something nice we like to say. You won’t have to spend much time at Groove to see how much we support relationship building and bonding. We believe it is our responsibility to love and value people first.
“We hope that as we invest in our people, they’ll invest in us as a company. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship,” Kevin explained.
People First
One of the ways we invest in our employees is by offering “mandatory fun.” C’mon. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
Every other month a team at Groove spearheads a company-wide mandatory fun event, offering our employees a chance to get away from their desks and let loose. From paper airplane contests to human foosball, or a relaxing afternoon at the movies, there is no limit to what these “drop-everything” events might entail.
In addition, Groove has implemented weekly Monday morning motivational meetings, Wednesday morning devotionals, and most recently, an employee lunch program.
The goal? Not just to serve great food, but to give employees a chance to socialize and get to know folks they don’t work with everyday. And we all know meeting someone new is always an adventure.
Speaking of adventure, how would you like to get reimbursed the next time you take an adventure of a lifetime?
Whether it’s hiking the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim, swimming with sharks, hang gliding, or any outdoor adventure you wouldn’t normally be doing on a Tuesday, Groove Life will reimburse you. If you’re employed, that is.
Our Mission
Groove Life as a company is laser-focused on their mission, which is to “serve people, inspire adventure, and reflect God.”
This isn’t just a catchy phrase.
Groove serves people well by offering outstanding customer service, and by viewing our employees as the most vital piece of the puzzle.
Groove inspires adventure through our awe-inspiring content, top-of-the-line products, an outdoor adventure program for our employees, and our Project Adventure series on YouTube.
Last but not least, Groove aspires to reflect God by striving for excellence in all that we do and by loving people well, both inside and outside of the company.
“The most tragic thing to me is when people only look forward to Friday afternoon. We want to create an environment where people look forward to Monday morning,” Kevin remarked.
As Groove Life moves forward, we aim to gain more prominence in the outdoor adventure industry as we create new, cutting-edge products and inspire adventure as we continue to serve the people right in front of us.
But most importantly, we hope to become the best place to work in Middle Tennessee and beyond.
