What is a Birthstone Ring?

Your Birthstone

Birthstone rings have been a popular gift for many years.

A birthstone is a rare precious stone affiliated with a specific month on the calendar. Jewelers make birthstone rings as a way for people to celebrate the month they were born. You can find birthstone rings, birthstone necklaces, birthstone earrings, and even bracelets for sale at most major jewelry stores.

What is the history of the Birthstone Ring?

While many modern jewelers associate the birthstones with astrology, the history of these twelve stones goes all the way back to the Old Testament in the Bible. In the 28th chapter of Exodus, God instructed Moses to have skilled men make a special breastplate for Aaron as High Priest, and to have it lined with each of these twelve precious stones (listed below) as a representation of the twelve tribes of Israel.

What is the color of my birthstone?

Here is a quick list of the precious birthstone associated with each month, the type of stone, and the color. Keep in mind, birthstones like Opal can come in many different brilliant colors. Do you recognize your birthstone?
