Groove Life Goes Savage

B-I-N-G-O.

Whether you've played it at a friend’s game night or went all in at the local Bingo Hall, there’s nothing quite like getting to shout “Bingo!” in the middle of a lively crowd.

But what if you took the classic Bingo game and made it savage?

This week, we brought Savage Bingo to Groove Life HQ. One of our favorite things about being on staff at Groove Life is getting to participate in Mandatory Fun. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it?

As a staff, we know how to work hard, but we also know how to play hard. Which is why quarterly mandatory fun events are a part of our company culture. It’s a chance for us to get away from our desks, mingle with other staff, and participate in a company-wide hour of fun.

So, what the heck is Savage Bingo? Let’s break it down for you.

Take the classic game of Bingo, add a few keywords to listen for while you’re playing, ensure you’re paying attention and do the appropriate hand motions at the right time, and spin the Wheel of Misfortune if you’re one of the unlucky ones.

Sound complicated enough?

For our company-wide Savage Bingo, Groovers gathered around tables in our auditorium, with four Bingo cards each, one for each round.

They were then told four important keywords to listen for while playing the game: Lodge, Bear, Adventure, and Q4. (Each keyword corresponded to a hand motion you had to perform as soon as you heard it.)

With monitors in place, the game began.

The Bingo caller shouted out letters and numbers and we proceeded to mark off our Bingo cards. Interspersed between the Bingo calls were the keywords we were told to listen out for. But they were so subtly spoken, they were easy to miss!

Our monitors kept an eye out for those who were the last to do the hand motions, making the last one spin the Wheel of Misfortune.

This is where things got crazy.

Those who had to spin the wheel were subject to things like Leap Frog with an executive, eating a caramel-covered onion, drawing mustaches on everyone at your table, eating a mouthful of mayonnaise, playing pickle snake (crawling face down with no hands toward a shot of pickle juice and downing it as fast as you can), and more!

Needless to say, all of our ears were perked up as we listened to the Bingo caller, and we moved quickly when we heard one of the keywords.

It was fast-paced, had us all on the edge of our seats, and was downright savage.

Oh, and the winners of each of Bingo round?

They took away some dang good prizes. We’re talking a Solo Stove, a Yeti cooler stocked with Yeti swag, a Cotopaxi backpack, and more!

I think we can safely say that participating in Savage Bingo was well worth it for a shot at those prizes.

Until next time…Keep Groovin’.
